Is it permissible to extend one's head outside the mosque during i'tikaf?
General Chapter
Al-Mughni
Book of I'tikaf
Primary text
It is permissible for the person in i'tikaf to extend part of their body outside the mosque, as evidenced by the narration that the Prophet's (PBUH) wife 'Aishah would comb his hair while he was in i'tikaf, requiring him to extend his head outside. If only a part of the body exits, the i'tikaf is not invalidated, whether done intentionally or forgetfully.
Supporting text
If an individual moves their entire body outside the mosque for a non-necessary reason, the i'tikaf is invalidated, even if done forgetfully, as leaving the mosque itself is a breach of the required confinement.
