Is it permissible to urinate in a basin inside a mosque for the purpose of later disposal?
General Chapter
Al-Mughni
Book of I'tikaf
Primary text
It is impermissible to urinate in a basin inside a mosque because mosques are not built for such purposes. This action is considered detestable, shameful, and something hidden, thus the mosque must be kept pure from it. This ruling applies similarly if one intended to perform cupping or bloodletting into a basin inside, as this involves pouring impurity into the mosque, analogous to urinating inside. If a great necessity compels this, one must exit the mosque to perform it. If the need is not compelling, exiting is not permitted, similar to an endurable illness.

Ibn Aqil held that bloodletting in a basin inside the mosque might be permissible, citing the allowance for a menstruating woman to perform I'tikaf while placing a basin underneath to catch blood, as evidenced by Aisha's report where a menstruating wife of the Prophet (PBUH) would sometimes place a basin beneath her while praying. However, this is distinguished because the menstruating woman cannot avoid it without abandoning I'tikaf, unlike the case of bloodletting.
