Primary text

If one campaigns on a camel and is unable to use anything else, two shares are assigned: one for him and one for the camel, according to the explicit statement of Ahmad. This implies the camel share is only granted when a horse is not possible.

Supporting text

Another narration from Ahmad suggests one share for the camel without the condition of inability to use a horse, citing Quran 59:6 regarding horses and camels. However, the preferred opinion of most jurists, including Abu al-Khattab, Al-Hasan, Al-Thawri, Al-Shafi'i, and the Companions of Opinion, is that the camel receives only the share of an infantryman, as the Prophet (peace be upon him) did not assign specific shares for camels despite their prevalence in battles.
