Is it permissible to use property acquired as spoils of war (Ghanimah or Fay') for personal use before its proper distribution?

It is impermissible to wear clothes or ride an animal acquired as spoils (*Maghnam* or *Fay'*). This ruling is established based on the tradition of Ruwayfi' ibn Thabit al-Ansari, where the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, stated: "Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day, let him not ride an animal from the spoils of the Muslims until he wears it out and returns it to the spoils, and whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day, let him not wear a garment from the spoils of the Muslims until he wears it out and returns it to the spoils." This tradition was reported by Sa'id.
