Primary text

If a captive enters into a transaction under coercion, the contract is invalid. If they were forced to accept possession of an item, they are not liable for it, but they must return it if it still exists, as it was given to them under an invalid contract. If they took possession willingly under a void contract, they are liable for it. If they sold the item while it still exists, they must return the item because the underlying contract is void; if the item is destroyed, they must return its value.
