What is the legal status of a non-Muslim granted safe conduct (Aman) and left unmolested?

Primary text
When non-Muslims grant safe conduct (Aman) and assurance to a person, that person is secured because their assurance necessitates safety from them. If it is possible for this person to proceed to the Abode of Islam, then proceeding is obligatory upon him. If proceeding is impossible, he remains, and his ruling is the ruling of one who embraced Islam while in the Abode of War (Dar al-Harb). If he attempts to leave and they pursue him, he may fight them, and the safe conduct is nullified because their demand that he remain is an act of disobedience (ma'siyah).
