Is *Nafal* restricted only to goods and not currency (dirhams and dinars)?
General Chapter
Al-Mughni
Book of Jihad
Primary text
The *Nafal* is not restricted to a specific type of asset; it applies to all captured wealth. The basis for this is the general application of the narrations from Habib ibn Maslamah, 'Ubadah, and Jarir, where the allocation of one-third or one-fourth implied coverage of all that was acquired. Since currency is a type of wealth, *Nafal* is permissible therein, just as it is for other types of property.

Al-Khallal stated that there is no *Nafal* in dirhams and dinars, a view shared by Al-Awza'i, on the grounds that a killer is only entitled to the *Slab* (which excludes currency), and thus others should not receive it either. However, this is refuted by the general nature of the prophetic stipulations regarding the one-third and one-fourth shares.
