Is a non-Muslim belligerent (Harbi) obligated to compensate for Muslim property he destroyed before converting to Islam or entering under protection?

A non-Muslim belligerent (Harbi) who destroys Muslim property, and subsequently converts to Islam or enters the Muslim domain under a guarantee of safety (aman), is not obligated to provide compensation for the destroyed property. There is no known disagreement on this point.
