Primary text
A pact of security may be concluded with any of them (the messengers or those seeking security) either without specifying a period (mutlaqan) or by restricting it to a specified duration, whether long or short. This differs from a truce (Hudnah), which is only permissible when restricted by a time limit, because allowing an unconditional truce would mean abandoning Jihad, which is not the case here.
