Primary text

If the *salab* is considered part of the general spoils, it is taken from the main body of the spoils (*asl al-ghanima*), not exclusively from the one-fifth reserved for Allah (*khums al-khums*). The evidence is that the Prophet, peace be upon him, decreed the *salab* to the killer absolutely, and there is no report that he accounted for it from the *khums al-khums*. Moreover, accounting it from the *khums al-khums* would necessitate determining its exact value and measure, which was not transmitted.

Supporting text

Malik was of the opinion that the *salab* should be accounted for from the one-fifth share reserved for Allah (*khums al-khums*).
