Primary text
Seven conditions must be met for the arbitrator: he must be free, Muslim, sane, adult, male, just (*'adil*), and a jurist (*faqih*), similar to the requirements for a Muslim ruler's judge. The arbitrator may be blind, as the objective is his opinion and knowledge of public interest regarding the specific ruling, which sight does not affect, unlike judicial rulings where sight is necessary to distinguish parties and witnesses.

The juristic knowledge required only pertains to the matter under arbitration, not all legal rulings.
