Primary text

When individuals are assigned to armies in Ash-Sham, Iraq, and Yemen, the command is given to adhere to Ash-Sham, for it is the best selection of Allah from His lands, gathering to it the best of His servants. If one refuses this, he should join Yemen and drink from its waters. Allah has guaranteed sufficiency for Ash-Sham and its people. Therefore, whoever is guaranteed by Allah will suffer no loss.

Supporting text

One narration suggests that if one must choose between the assignments, he should choose Ash-Sham. If he abstains from Ash-Sham, he should then proceed to Yemen.
