Primary text
The prohibition of separation applies equally to the grandfather and grandmother concerning their descendants as it does to parents, because the grandfather stands in the place of the father, and the grandmother in the place of the mother. They share the same status regarding custody, inheritance, and maintenance, and thus they share the status regarding the prohibition of separation. This applies equally to the paternal and maternal grandparents due to their kinship ties, similar to their standing in bearing witness for or against each other.
