What provisions are required when Jihad takes place over a distance where prayer is shortened?

If the journey distance allows for the shortening of prayer, a riding animal is considered mandatory in addition to provisions, supported by the verse concerning those who came to the Prophet seeking transport: 'Nor is there any blame upon those who, when they came to you that you should provide them transportation, [and] you said, "I find nothing upon which to mount you," [and] they turned back while their eyes overflowed with tears of grief because they could not find anything to spend' (Quran 9:92).
