What is the religious status of a non-Muslim child captured alone from their parents?
General Chapter

Book of Jihad
Primary text
A non-Muslim child captured alone, without either parent, is a Muslim by consensus (*ijma*). This is because religious status is established as a consequence of dependence. The child's dependence on the parents is severed by being separated from them, removed from their domicile, and brought into the abode of Islam following the Muslim captor; thus, the child follows the captor's religion.
