Primary text

If a person departs for voluntary Jihad with the permission of his guardians (parents/masters) and they subsequently forbid him after his departure but before the Jihad becomes obligatory upon him, he must return. This is because any impediment that would prevent initial departure also prevents continuation once encountered during the journey, similar to other impediments. However, if returning poses a danger to himself, or if a new excuse arises such as illness, loss of sustenance, or similar reasons, he is excused. If remaining on the path is possible, he should stay; otherwise, he proceeds with the army. Once he reaches the battle line, the Jihad becomes obligatory upon him by virtue of his presence, and their permission is no longer a factor.
