If one person among the inhabitants of the fort converts to Islam before its opening, and then it becomes ambiguous which one truly converted when each of them claims it, each person must pay the value of himself and leave one-tenth of that value for himself. This is the ruling stated by Al-Awza'i.

The قياس (analogy) according to our Madhhab suggests there are two views, mirroring the ruling established for the case where the recipient of the aman is unidentified.
