Primary text

If a non-Muslim belligerent converts to Islam while in possession of property previously taken from a Muslim, the property remains his absolutely, without any dispute within the school of thought. This is based on the statement of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him): "Whoever embraces Islam with something, it is his." This ruling applies whether he acquired the property through a gift, theft, or purchase, as his seizure occurred during his state of disbelief, making it analogous to property taken by force from a Muslim.

Supporting text

There is a narration from Ahmad that the original owner retains the right to the property's value (compensation).
