What is the ruling regarding the possessions of a warrior equipped for Jihad who dies before departing for the campaign?
General Chapter
Al-Mughni
Book of Jihad
Primary text
If a person is given something to aid in campaigning, Ahmad states that nothing from it should be left for his family because he does not yet own it. Ownership is established only upon reaching the starting point of the campaign (ras maghza), at which point it becomes like his own wealth, and he may then send to his dependents. He is not permitted to dispose of it before departing, lest he fails to join the campaign and thereby forfeit his right to what he spent.

If the item purchased with the funds is equipment for warfare, like weapons or tools, and the intent of the giver was specifically for the jihad, Ahmad stated that no provisions or food should be prepared from it to feed others, as it is consecrated (*habis*) solely for the purpose of fighting.
