Primary text

There are two narrations concerning the value of the child. One holds that his value at the time of birth is obligatory upon the man and added to the spoils, as he has deprived the others of the child's status as a slave, similar to the offspring of a fraudulently induced person. The other narration states his value is not due because he owned her at the time of conception, and the captors' ownership of the child was never established.

Supporting text

The Qadi states that if half the mother becomes an Umm Walad, the entire child becomes free, and the man owes the value of the other half.
