Spoils entitlement for a slave designated for manumission upon the completion of the campaign (mudabbar) or one writing his freedom (mukatab)?
General Chapter
Al-Mughni
Book of Jihad
Primary text
The mudabbar and the mukatab are treated as slaves; they receive shares if they are emancipated before the conclusion of the war. If the master of the mudabbar dies before the war concludes, and the manumission falls within the one-third allowance, the slave is freed and receives a share.
Supporting text
For someone who is part-slave and part-free, Abu Bakr stated he receives a consolation gift proportionate to his status as a slave and a share proportionate to his freedom; for example, if half-free, he receives half a share and half a consolation gift.
