Primary text

When the voluntary gift (Nafil) is granted as an incentive, such as 'whoever brings ten heads gets one head as a reward' (akin to 'Ajr or J'al), this specific reward is taken from the entirety of the spoils, similar to the *Salab* (the property of the slain enemy fighter), which is not subject to the Khums deduction. This is supported by the case of Salama bin al-Akwa' whose extra share was taken from the four-fifths, suggesting the general rule applies unless otherwise specified for the specific types of Nafil.

Supporting text

There is a potential division in distribution for the second type of Nafil, where some fighters receive an increase over their standard share due to their exceptional service. It is possible this specific addition is taken from the Khums designated for public interests, as such a grant benefits the collective. However, the established school of thought dictates that the primary rule of taking Nafil from the four-fifths remains the standard unless specified otherwise.
