May a warrior feed his animals and slaves from provisions taken from the enemy territory?
General Chapter
Al-Mughni
Book of Jihad
Primary text
A warrior may feed his beasts of burden and his slaves from provisions permissible for him to eat, regardless of whether the animals are for personal use or for trade. This permissibility is due to necessity. It is narrated that Imam Ahmad initially showed disfavor regarding provisions for trade animals, but later retracted this view, holding that necessity dictates allowance, similar to what is not intended for trade.
Supporting text
Abdullah, the son of Imam Ahmad, narrated a report from his father where he expressed disapproval regarding feeding slaves and feeding the beasts of burden if they were intended for trade, suggesting that provisions should not be used for what is not an aid to the invasion itself.
