Primary text

If a *dhimmi* (protected non-Muslim subject) engaged in usury or selling wine and pigs while in a state of disbelief, and then converts to Islam while possessing that wealth, he is not obligated to relinquish any of it. This is because that wealth was acquired during a past state of disbelief, analogous to marriage contracts established during their non-belief which remain valid upon conversion.
