The Imam's options regarding an individual whose covenant is nullified.
General Chapter
Al-Mughni
Book of Jizya
Primary text
When the Imam rules that a person's covenant is nullified, he has the choice among four actions for that individual: execution (Qatl), enslavement (Istirqaq), ransom (Fidya), or granting pardon (Mann), just as with a captive enemy combatant. This is because he is an unbeliever over whom authority was established in our land without a covenant, contract, or semblance of protection, thus resembling an enemy thief. This ruling is specific to the individual who violated the terms, not his descendants, as the nullification applies only to his action.
