General Chapter
Al-Mughni
Book of Jizya
Primary text
The Jizya must be taken based on its valuation (Qimah). This is affirmed by the statement of the Prophet, peace be upon him, commanding 'or its equivalent in Mighafir,' indicating equivalence in value is acceptable.

There is a narration from 'Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, suggesting he took Jizya from craftsmen based on their trade items—needles from a needle maker, awls from an awl maker, and ropes from a rope maker. When he offered them gold and silver in exchange to divide equally, they refused, leading him to state that they took the best items and left the refuse, and they must carry the obligation regardless.
