Primary text

The final position of Imam Ahmad, adopted by the majority of his companions, permits marriage to their women. This permission is derived from the comprehensive nature of the verse stating that chaste women from the People of the Book are lawful for marriage (Quran 5:5). Since they are People of the Book who maintain their religion by paying tribute, their women are lawful, similar to the Israelites.
