The meaning of the phrase "until they pay" in the verse (Quran 9:29) signifies their commitment and acceptance to pay the Jizyah, not the physical act of payment itself. This is analogous to the verse stating, "But if they repent, establish prayer, and give Zakah, then let them [go] their way" (Quran 9:5), where the obligation refers to the commitment, even though Zakah itself is only obligatory upon completing a full lunar year, as indicated by the Prophet's statement: "There is no Zakah on wealth until a full year passes over it."
