Primary text
Taking the property of a brother through a false oath carries a great sin, and it is considered one of the major sins. This is evidenced by the severe punishment promised by Allah Almighty in the Quran, stating that those who sell their covenant with Allah and their oaths for a small price shall have no share in the Hereafter, Allah will not speak to them, nor look upon them on the Day of Resurrection, nor purify them, and they will have a painful punishment (Quran 3:77). Furthermore, the Prophet, peace be upon him, declared that whoever swears a false oath to take the money of a Muslim unjustly will meet Allah while He is angry with him. This is supported by the narration of Ibn Mas'ud stating that whoever swears a false oath to unjustly acquire the property of a Muslim will meet Allah while He is angry. Another narration states that one who swears falsely over his property to consume it unjustly will meet Allah while He is turning away from him.
