What is the ruling if a witness testifies that someone took an object from another person's possession (yad)?

The judge is obliged to order the return of the object to the possession of the person from whom it was taken. Possession itself is evidence of ownership, so the object must be returned to that possession to affirm its evidentiary status for that individual.
