Is it permissible for a judge to appoint a scribe?

Primary text
It is permissible for the judge to appoint a scribe because the Prophet, peace be upon him, appointed Zayd ibn Thabit and others to write. Furthermore, the judge's duties are numerous, preventing him from handling all the writing personally. If the judge is capable of writing himself, it is permissible, but appointing a deputy is preferable.
