Primary text

The judge must proceed to his session in the most complete and just manner, being entirely free from intense anger, severe hunger or thirst, excessive joy or grief, overwhelming worry, painful illness, the immediate need to relieve oneself, and heavy drowsiness. These conditions ensure his heart is focused, his mind is present, and he is most sharp in discerning the truth and forming sound opinions. This is supported by the Prophet's decree: 'A judge shall not judge between two while he is angry,' indicating that anger, and conditions analogous to it, must be avoided.
