Primary text
If a judge engages in buying and selling out of necessity to support his dependents and lacks anyone else to suffice them, the action is permitted and not disliked. This is established by the actions of Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq, who intended to trade until the Companions provided him with a stipend, thereby proving that self-support is a valid exception to the general prohibition.
