Primary text

The testimony of women regarding disparagement and praise (*Jarh wa Ta'dil*) is not accepted. The evidence for this position is that this testimony concerns matters that are not financial in nature, nor is the objective financial gain, and these matters are generally known by men. Therefore, it resembles testimony in cases of retribution (*Qisas*).

Supporting text

Abu Hanifa holds that the testimony of women in this matter is accepted because it does not require the formulation of testimony (*shahada*) and is thus analogous to narration (*riwaya*) and reports concerning blood money (*Diyat*).
