The explicit phrases for Khul' are three: 'Khala'tuki' (I release you through Khul'), 'Mufadatuki' (I ransom you), and 'Fasakhtu Nikahaki' (I annul your marriage). The use of 'Khala'tuki' is established by common usage. 'Mufadatuki' is supported by the Quranic verse concerning the right of the husband to accept what is given in redemption, referencing Quran 2:229. 'Fasakhtu Nikahaki' is considered explicit because it denotes the reality of the separation. When any of these explicit phrases are used, Khul' takes effect immediately, irrespective of the speaker's underlying intention (niyyah).
