What is the legal consequence when a husband states, 'You are divorced for a thousand, divorced, and divorced'?
General Chapter
Al-Mughni
Book of Khul' (Redemption Divorce)
Primary text
If the husband states, 'You are divorced for a thousand, divorced, and divorced,' only the first pronouncement takes effect as a final separation (ba'inah). The second and third pronouncements do not take effect because they occur after the final separation has been established. This is the position of Al-Shafi'i.
Supporting text
The ruling differs if the husband states, 'You are divorced and divorced and divorced for a thousand,' in which case all three pronouncements take effect.
