What is the ruling if the wife requests divorce for a consideration?

If the wife says, 'Divorce me for a thousand,' and the husband replies, 'You are divorced, and you owe me a thousand,' the divorce occurs, and the thousand becomes due from her. The pronouncement 'You are divorced' is sufficient for the validity of Khul' (redemption/ransom divorce), establishing the right to consideration, and the subsequent phrase merely serves as emphasis.
