Primary text

Ahmad chose that accepting compensation for Ruqyah is permissible, stating there is no harm in it, citing the Hadith of Abu Sa'id. The distinction made is that Ruqyah is a type of treatment (Mudaawah), and accepting payment (Ja'alah) for treatment is permissible. Ja'alah is broader than Ijarah (lease/wage contract), as it is valid even with unknown work or duration. The saying, 'The most worthy thing you take wages for is the Book of Allah,' is understood to include compensation for Ruqyah, as it was mentioned immediately after the narration of the Ruqyah incident.
