Primary text

If the fabric is deficient in both length and width, or in one dimension, one opinion states that no wages are due, and the weaver must compensate for the diminished yarn, as the commission was violated. This is likened to contracting to build a wall one cubit wide and building it half a cubit wide. The second opinion grants wages commensurate with the portion completed, similar to a contract for laying bricks where only some are laid.

Supporting text

It is possible that if the deficiency is only in width, nothing is owed, but if it is only deficient in length, wages proportionate to the completed amount are due, based on the distinction made between length and width. If the fabric is in excess in one dimension and deficient in the other, no wages are due for the excess, and the ruling for the deficiency applies based on the preceding detail.
