Is it disliked (Makruh) for a free man to consume the earnings of a cupper?
General Chapter
Al-Mughni
Book of Leasing
Primary text
It is disliked (Makruh) for a free man to consume the earnings acquired by a cupper. This ruling is derived by reconciling the various narrations. The Prophet (peace be upon him) commanded the cupper to feed it to his dependents, indicating it is permissible sustenance for them, while it is disliked for the free man to consume it, due to the inherent ignobility (dana'ah) associated with the profession, similar to sweeping (kasah).
Supporting text
The dislike extends to learning the craft of cupping and hiring oneself out for it, based on the existence of narrations indicating reservation regarding this profession and its perceived lowliness.
