Primary text
It is permissible to hire a copyist (naskh) for copying books of Fiqh, Hadith, permissible poetry, or official records. This ruling is explicitly stated, as no harm was seen in paying for the copying of Hadith. The payment arrangement requires specification, either by time duration or by the extent of the work done. If specified by work, the number of pages, their dimensions, the number of lines per page, the extent of the marginalia, and the quality of the pen (thickness and fineness) must be determined. If the handwriting style can be known through direct viewing, that suffices; otherwise, it must be defined by description, as the wage varies according to these factors. Alternatively, the compensation can be determined based on portions of the derivative work (far') or portions of the original text being copied.
Supporting text
It is permissible to agree upon a single wage for copying the entire original text.
