Is it permissible to hire a measurer or weigher for known work or for a specific duration?

It is permissible to hire a weigher or a measurer for a specified known task or for a specified duration. This view is held by Malik, Al-Thawri, Al-Shafi'i, and the People of Opinion (Ashab al-Ra'y). There is no known opposition to this ruling. Evidence for this is found in the Hadith of Suwayd ibn Qays, wherein the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, instructed a man who was weighing for a fee to 'Weigh and give the full measure' (زن وأرجح), as narrated by Abu Dawud.
