Primary text
Renting items whose fragrance or essence remains, such as musk, sandalwood, camphor pieces, and aloe wood, for patients or others to smell for a period before returning them is permissible. This is because the benefit derived—the enjoyment of the scent—is a permissible utility. This action is analogous to renting for weighing or measuring, even though the rented item will naturally suffer wear and deterioration (iqhilaq and bala) during the rental period.
