Is it permissible to rent a rooster to wake oneself for prayer time?

It is not permissible for a man to rent a rooster to wake him for the time of prayer. This ruling is based on the fact that relying on the rooster's action is unreliable. Its crowing cannot be reliably extracted through beating or any other means. The rooster may crow, or it may not crow, and even if it does crow, it might crow after the prescribed time for prayer has elapsed.
