If an artisan damages a garment after completing work upon it, the owner has the choice: either to hold the artisan liable for the garment's value as if no work had been done, with no payment for the labor, or to hold the artisan liable for the garment in its worked-upon state and pay the artisan the agreed-upon labor wage.
