What is the ruling if a shepherd claims an animal died without presenting its skin?
General Chapter
Al-Mughni
Book of Leasing
Primary text
If a shepherd presents the skin of a sheep and claims it died, his word is not accepted, and he is not liable based on the sounder opinion. This is because trustees' statements are generally accepted, similar to a depositee, and it is generally impossible for him to provide proof of death without the skin, thus assimilating him to the depositee.
Supporting text
A narration from Ahmad suggests that he must be liable and his word is not accepted.
