How must the work be specified when renting oxen for plowing?

The work can be specified in one of three ways: by duration, such as one or two days; by specific land area, such as this plot or from this place to that place; or by measurement, such as one or two *mudds* (a measure of area). All these methods are permissible because they establish certainty. If the duration is specified, the strength or weakness of the oxen used must be known, as the outcome differs based on their capability.
