Primary text

If lost property is found in a location where it faces certain peril, such as being left in a place inhabited by lions, or a horse found in enemy territory, or in an area whose inhabitants legitimize seizing the wealth of Muslims (like Wadi al-Taim), or in a barren land without water or pasture, then taking it for safekeeping is permissible. The taker is free from liability in this case because the act constitutes saving it from destruction, analogous to rescuing property from drowning or fire.
