Primary text

For actions whose performer must specifically be one dedicated to worship (*Qurbah*) and whose benefit does not extend beyond the performer, such as prayer and fasting, it is not permissible to take a fee (*Ja'l*).

Supporting text

If the act of worship benefits others, such as the call to prayer (*Adhan*), establishing the *Iqamah* (call to stand for prayer), or Hajj (pilgrimage), there are two scholarly opinions regarding the permissibility of taking a fee, similar to the differing narrations concerning *Ijarah* for such acts.
