Primary text
If the slave informs his master and the master does not take it from him, or if the master takes it, announces it, and fulfills the trust during the first year without negligence on either party, there is no liability. If the slave fails to fulfill the trust (i.e., is negligent), liability is incurred, and this liability pertains jointly to the person of the slave and the financial responsibility of the master, because the negligence occurred from both parties.
